Barren County Nursing and Rehab is utilizing our website to keep our residents, families, and staff updated on our current COVID-19 situation. We have made every effort to keep people informed with our weekly Zoom meetings on Thursday, going forward, we will utilize this website for all of our COVID-19 updates, and reporting of our positives for residents and staff. We will inform everyone by phone of any initial positives, but afterwards, this will be our official COVID reporting mechanism. Thanks again for all your support throughout this pandemic. Sorry I haven’t updated since the first of August, we’ve been very busy with all the testing that we’ve done. First, we are glad to report that as of 9/5/2020, we are still COVID free. I did want to update you on the testing. Last month, we tested our employees twice, based upon the recommendations of the state of Kentucky. The state of Kentucky recommended testing staff members every 2 weeks. Both of our tests resulted in no positive cases among our staff. We were very pleased with those results, and continue to work hard to provide a safe environment.
The last of August, the federal government, CMS to be exact, released new regulations which require us to test based upon our county’s positive rate, and so currently we are required to test twice a week. We were able to complete testing twice this week, and are scheduled to test twice a week again next week. We have the results from our first test, and they are all negative. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, and know that we are all making sacrifices during this unusual time. Thanks and stay Safe!
On 9/14/2020, we received confirmation from our lab that we had an employee positive. We are notifying everyone, as required, and working to complete testing on all of our residents today, and all of our staff tomorrow. We will post any changes in our current status here. We did receive news yesterday of 2 additional staff members, so currently we have 3 staff positives. We are re-testing all employees today. And all residents were tested yesterday. We will let you know how that all turns out when we get the results. It will probably be Thursday before we know the results on the residents, hopefully sooner.
9/16/2020 update. We received confirmation today of one positive resident. All other residents were negative. We will be retesting weekly. Residents on Monday and staff on Tuesday until further notice.
Update, 9/17/2020, our staff members tests returned today, and i’m happy to announce that all of the tests came back negative. So, the first followup to our tests, has all employees showing negative. Thank you to everyone for staying safe.
Update from 09/22/2020, we had some more good news to report. All staff negative from the Friday testing. We will start testing weekly this week, so I will let you know when we get everyone’s results back. We have tested residents Monday, 9/21 and staff members Tuesday, 9/22. I will post the resident results(not specifics due to HIPAA obviously) as soon as I have them all returned. According to the state of Kentucky and the guidance from CMS, we need to go 14 days without any new positives, and then we can start returning to our previous situation, with group activities, and communal dining, and also restart our visits. We are very hopeful that this may happen as early as Monday, Sept 28th(best case scenario). We will let everyone know when this occurs. Please keep praying for us, and know that we are working hard to keep everyone here safe!
Update 09/24/2020, wonderful news – All resident tests from Monday(9/21) were negative!!!!! So thankful. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I appreciate all the words of support, and know that this is a very scary time right now. Our staff tests from this past Tuesday should be in today or tomorrow. If we can continue to remain negative, we will be releasing the COVID unit, and we will slowly start bringing back the group activities, the group dining, and also the visits that we were doing previously. email@example.com, you can send your questions or comments to that email, and you can always call the facility. Update, 09/25/2020, happy friday morning. Good news, we got the employee test back, and all negatives. We’re so happy for this news and continued moving forward with our plans to get back to where we were before this outbreak. But i’m so proud of the way that our staff has responded to this challenge. Wonderful news today, our one positive patient is released from the COVID unit, and so we have a recovered COVID patient. HIPAA forbids us to share any specifics, but we did want everyone to know that we are releasing the patient from the unit today. We are also testing all residents today, and employees tomorrow. We are planning a Zoom meeting call for Thursday to discuss next steps and to update everyone on our progress. A staff member will be in touch with the information to call in or to video if you have that capability. Thanks again, and answered prayers, with one recovered COVID patient.
Update, 09/30/2020, all resident tests are back from Monday, and they are all negative!!! So thankful. Keep sending good thoughts our way!
10/01/2020, we were contacted today by the lab and notified of 2 staff members testing positive. The staff members were tested Tuesday, and they haven’t worked since Monday. We are very hopeful that we caught them early enough to prevent any further spread. As always, we are praying for continued resident negatives. So far, we haven’t had any severe cases with any of our employee positives. Please keep them in your prayers, and stay safe everyone! Remember, masks do save lives!!!!

Update, 10/16/2020, first of all, i’m sorry for the delay in getting the information out to everyone, but i wanted to make sure that we had our tests back before we reported. Wonderful news – All negatives on residents, and all negatives on staff. Which means that we can start the process back again, with dining room, activities, and visits. I’m so happy to report this, and so thankful for all the prayers and support. We will not have to test residents unless they are symptomatic, and show signs, so that’s a blessing, and we will continue to test our staff weekly at this point. I will update on here if that changes. I’m so happy that our residents will again get to have some visitors. Activities will be scheduling the visits, so contact Amy or any of the activities staff to setup the visits. I’m sure that it may take a few weeks to get everything back on track, but hopefully we will continue to move forward and not have another positive test result for the foreseeable future. In the end, we will do whatever we have to do, to protect and keep our people safe during this unprecedented times.
Update 10/23/2020, we tested employees on Tuesday, and another good report. No positives this week for staff. Residents will only be tested if they show symptoms and the doctor gives us an order to test. We have started back with visits, inside on the beige hallway at the back, where the beige hall lounge was previously located. We have had a good first week back, please contact Amy Loyall in Activities to schedule the visits. We have also had activities out of the room and communal dining- dining room. Thanks so much. As of 10/29/2020, we tested all of our employees on Tuesday. We have received confirmation of one positive employee. Due to the positive employee, we tested all the residents today, We should have the results in a day or two. I will post when we have the results. We are seeing a tremendous amount of COVID activity in the area right now. Barren and surrounding counties are having a lot of positives. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We test all employees again tomorrow. Due to the community positivity rate, we are testing twice a week for employees. And we will test residents again next week too.
